Bob will be leading a rally to keep open the John Jay Homestead in Bedford, a national historic site. The protest against the Homestead’s closing will begin Friday, March 5, at 11am.

John Jay is a favorite son of Westchester, and one of our nations Founding Fathers. One of the authors of the Federalist Papers, President of the Continental Congress, Governor of New York, and appointed by President Washington as the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Jay was also an original benefactor and vestryman of Bedford’s own St. Matthew’s Church. The local high school near his homestead bears his name today, as does the college where Asm. Castelli has lectured as a professor, the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Chief Justice Jay is central to the history of our district, our county, our state, and our nation. Please join us in fighting to preserve his memory and legacy by keeping the John Jay Homestead open. We hope to see you there!

UPDATE: The Friends of John Jay Homestead have posted their own alert on their website regarding the closing, with information on how to contact the New York League of Conservation Voters on the matter, as well as relevant Assemblymen, State Senators, and Speaker Silver.

UPDATE 2: The Lewisboro Ledger has posted coverage.

  1. Bob,

I agree. There’s other ways to save money than destroying local history. There’s enough waste and fraud in government. Keep the place open and have it generate revenue for us! Ask me, Bob, I can sell ice in winter. We can powwow on what to do. Call me….914-533-7065
